Datastore Announces New Solutions for Paper-based Medical Charts & Records

Unique Solution Targets The Challenge of "What To Do" With Historical Charts After Moving To EMR/EHR

Milwaukee, WI, May 5, 2010 - Datastore, the leading provider of advanced information management services and solutions for the Milwaukee, Madison and Chicago region, today announced their newest innovation targeting the emerging problem facing Healthcare organizations as they move to electronic health record (EHR) also known as electronic medical record (EMR) systems.  This new solution enables organizations to cost-effectively migrate historical paper charts and medical records, an emerging challenge often discovered after the implementation of the new EHR system.

Once organizations make the significant investment in new EMR/EHR systems, they later discover that scanning and entering historical paper-based records to be a cumbersome, tedious and laborious effort.  Yet these records need to brought online so that practioners have full online access to the entirety of a patient's medical history.  The requirement for converting paper charts into electronic documents is further mandated as emerging Health Exchange initiatives come into effect.

Datastore's creative solution enables these historical charts to be captured in a "pay-as-you-go" model as patient appointment and encounters occur.  The historical documents are then stored electronically in "cloud-based" content repositories that integrate seamlessly with your current EMR/EHR system.  Practioners can easily access these historical records directly from systems such as Epic, Cerner, McKesson, NextGen and virtually any other EHR system.   The solution also enables the physical records to be transformed into a virtual file room, enabling the organization to recapture critical office space in support of higher-value operations.

Also announced at WHIMA was another unique solution that can "read" the newly scanned historical paper charts, and automate the data entry of vital historical chart information directly into the EHR/EMR system.  The extracted data is passed to the EHR/EMR system using industry standard HL7 formats so that any EHR/EMR system can receive this automated data entry.

“Datastore has a strong record of successfully providing information solutions to the region's healthcare community”, said Mike Ball, President of Datastore. “Our newest advanced information solutions demonstrates our continuing commitment to this market segment, while we strive to bring innovative solutions to cost-effectively meet the current and emerging informational challenges faced by the healthcare community.”
